Hot Springs, Ark—The Arkansas Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an agency of the Department of Defense, presented White River Medical Center with one of 18 “Above and Beyond” awards June 14 at a recognition luncheon at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Hot Springs.
The “Above and Beyond” Award, according to ESGR Arkansas Chair Don C. Morrow, “was created to publicly recognize American Employers who provide extraordinary patriotic support and cooperation to their employees who have answered their nation’s call to serve.”
The award honors employers that go above and beyond to support their employees who also serve in the Guard and Reserve.
WRMC was nominated for the award by military physician Dr. Michael Orlando. Dr. Orlando, an active Air Force Reservist, is employed by WRMC as an Ear, Nose, and Throat physician.
“My patients, the Board of Directors and Administration of the hospital, and my fellow physicians encourage my service and help in so many ways,” Orlando said. “Their support, along with the help of my clinic staff, I am able to balance my reserve activities with my private practice. I am honored to serve the Air Force and my patients here at home.”
ESGR is a Department of Defense agency with the mission to gain and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve service by recognizing outstanding support, increasing awareness of the law, and resolving conflicts through mediation. More than 1.3 million members of the National Guard and Reserve are currently serving America’s borders and beyond.
WRMC is a 199-bed regional referral center and the flagship facility of White River Health System (WRHS). WRHS is a not-for-profit healthcare system serving residents throughout North Central Arkansas.
