Anesthesiologist Joins White River Medical Center

Dr. J. William McCord, Jr., Anesthesiology, has joined the Medical Staff at White River Medical Center. Anesthesiologists are physicians responsible for administering anesthesia to relieve pain and for managing vital life signs during surgery, including breathing, heart rhythm and blood pressure.

As the Director of Anesthesia Services, Dr. McCord will provide leadership to projects that improve the quality and efficiency of anesthesia services within the surgery department and provide consultation for complex surgical cases. He will work closely with surgeons, certified registered nurse anesthetists and other clinical staff to ensure continued high levels of patient safety, quality and satisfaction.

Dr. McCord received his medical degree from the Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City, MO.  He completed residency training in anesthesiology at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, and residency training in family practice at Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc, MI.  Also at Genesys Regional Medical Center, Dr. McCord served a one year rotating internship. He is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, where he has been active on several committees, and a fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice.  Dr. McCord was named the Paul Grayson Smith Doctor of the Year by the Tennessee Osteopathic Medical Association in 2002 and received the A. Archie Feinstein Award from the American Association of Osteopathic Examiners in 2007.  Dr. McCord served 16 years on the Tennessee Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners. From that experience he was very active in the medical licensing national organization, the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB).  Dr McCord was on the FSMB Board of Directors for thirteen years including serving as the Chair (chief elected officer) one term and as Treasurer for two terms. 

WRMC is a 199-bed regional referral center and the flagship facility of White River Health System (WRHS). WRHS is a not-for-profit healthcare system serving residents throughout North Central Arkansas.  The system includes hospitals, outpatient facilities, primary care and specialty physician office practices, long-term care facilities and a medical equipment company.  White River Health System is a member of the Premier Alliance, the American Hospital Association, and the Arkansas Hospital Association and is licensed by the Arkansas Department of Health.
