Cardiac Rehabilitation

At White River Medical Center, cardiac care includes state-of-the-art diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation. Our Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is focused on helping patients with heart conditions achieve the best possible state of health.

What is Cardiac Rehabilitation?

Cardiac Rehabilitation, referred to as cardiac rehab, is a program of structured exercise and education for patients with heart disease. Cardiac Rehab is a three-phase program. A referral from your physician is necessary before you can begin. WRMC brings together certified cardiac nurses, clinical exercise physiologists, critical care nurses, physical therapists, registered dieticians, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, health educators, chaplains, and more to help you improve your quality of life.

The first phase occurs while you are in the hospital after a heart attack or surgery. The second phase is an outpatient program of exercise and education. Patients are carefully monitored during their workout routine. The workouts focus on patient’s individual needs and goals. Educational sessions teach patients the lifestyle changes necessary to improve their health. The third phase of cardiac rehab is a voluntary maintenance exercise program. Cardiac rehab patients who want to continue workouts may join the Fit For Life Program. The cost of phase three is covered by some insurance plans.
