Outpatient Nutrition Counseling
Outpatient Nutrition Counseling, defined as Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), includes nutritional diagnostic therapy and counseling services provided by a Registered Dietitian for the purpose of managing an acute or chronic condition or disease.
Following valid and reliable nutrition screening, MNT assessment and intervention has the potential to significantly reduce clinical endpoints such as infections complications, hospital stay, and/or
mortality.
A physician referral is required for Registered Dietitians to provide MNT. The typical service includes an initial assessment and intervention followed by multiple reassessment and intervention
encounters.
MNT will provide the patient with education services such as:
- Diabetes (Type 1, Type 2, and Gestational)
- Renal Disease prior to dialysis
- Obesity
- Hyperlipidemia
- Anemia
- Heart Failure
- Metabolic Syndrome
- Drug/Nutrient Interactions
