Respiratory Therapy
The Respiratory Therapy Department of White River Medical Center provides cardiac diagnostic and respiratory therapy services for the in- and outpatient population.
PATIENT POPULATION
The patient population served by Respiratory Therapy consists of newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and the geriatric patients requiring respiratory care, services, treatment or testing to maintain optimum physiological maintenance of respiratory systems.
SCOPE AND COMPLEXITY OF PATIENT CARE NEEDS
Respiratory Therapy provides optimum assistance to nurses and physicians in maintaining preventative and restorative health needs for patients. The Respiratory Therapy staff provides quality, conscientious, cost effective and competent care with respect for life and dignity at every stage of the human experience. Procedures performed by Respiratory Therapy include, but are not limited to: Arterial Blood Gas, Pulmonary Function Testing, Peak Flow, Nebulizer Treatments, BiPAP and CPAP, Ventilator care, and Electrocardiograms, basic and advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitative measures. Patient education on disease entities is provided via educational handouts with verbal explanation.
STAFFING AND QUALIFICATIONS
Respiratory Therapy is open twenty-four hours a day. There is Respiratory Therapist on the day shift to assist physicians with procedures taking place during the daytime hours. Respiratory Therapist is also available during the evening and night shifts for procedures, treatments, ventilator care and any other emergencies requiring his/her assistance. All Respiratory Therapist must have a current RCP license and BCLS certificate.
