Gifts Totaling More than $6M Supports WRMC Expansion

Conducting a campaign takes dedication. Through its success, the White River Health System Foundation has proved its dedication. As the White River Health System Patient Tower Investment Campaign came to a close October 18th, it was announced that gifts received through both local funds and a grant totaled more than $6 million dollars, surpassing the Foundation's goal of $5 million. These contributions have been designated for the White River Medical Center Ground Floor Renovation and Patient Tower Expansion.

"The commitment displayed by the Foundation, as well as members of the local community, is outstanding," said Gary Bebow, White River Health System CEO/Administrator. "They, along with so many others who have donated to this campaign, have made possible the delivery of better healthcare in our community."

In February of 2011, the Employee Investment Steering Committee saw great success when $546,000 was pledged by 770 hospital employees. Shortly after that campaign ended, the Foundation began the public phase of the campaign to give the local residents the opportunity to invest in the better health of our community.

Members of the Investment Campaign Steering Committee for the campaign invited community members to tour the current hospital and observe how staff members work diligently to provide quality, efficient care despite patient volumes outgrowing current space. To gain extra support, tours were also presented in the form of Power Point presentations to civic organizational meetings and local businesses.

"Our goal to raise local investment dollars was challenging," said Jeff Showalter, WRHS Foundation Vice President and Campaign Steering Committee Chair. "The committee rose to the challenge, and the response exceeded our expectations. What a great experience to serve with so many dedicated community leaders!"

The Investment Campaign Steering Committee consists of business and community leaders. Aside from Showalter, these leaders included David Baker, Gary Bebow, Dick Bernard, Robin Brock, Steve Bryant, Woody Castleberry, Dale Cole, John Dews, Gary Edwards, Dianne Lamberth, Raye Rogers, Kay Southerland, and Jim Wann.

Foundation members Larry Sandage, Angela Dugger, Sarah Morgan, and Amber Neal also assisted the committee during the campaign.

Proceeds from the Investment Campaign will go toward WRMC’s Ground Floor Renovation and Patient Tower Expansion Project. The project consists of the construction of a new patient tower that will add 60 private patient rooms and the expansion of several departments for more efficient and accessible services to patients, their families, and staff. These changes will ultimately lead to the expansion and renovation of WRMC’s Emergency Department, the catalyst for the entire project. The patient tower, which has an estimated cost of $35M, began last spring and will take 18-24 months to complete.
