White River Medical Center Partners with Lyon College to Train Health Coaches

Jody Smotherman, Director of Quality at White River Medical Center (WRMC ) visits briefly with a student before the most recent session of the Health Coach Training program.  WRMC and Lyon College Associate Professor of Biology, Mark Schram, PhD, have teamed up to train pre-med students at Lyon college as Health Coaches. The program, developed by the Community Care Network (CCN), trains students to work with hospital care coordinators to provide in-home assistance to recently discharged patients with chronic conditions. The students will assist patients with the medical, environmental and social resources to manage their health.
