WRHS Physician Named Fellow

Luis Quiel, MD, FACP, Internal Medicine was recently inducted as a fellow of the American College of Physicians (ACP).  The formal induction will take place at the organization’s annual scientific meeting in New Orleans. Dr. Quiel is an Internal Medicine physician at White River Medical Center (WRMC).

The ACP recognizes fellows for achievements in Internal Medicine, the specialty of adult medical care. Physicians gather at the scientific meeting to learn about the latest research and clinical best practices to provide the highest quality patient care.

Dr. Quiel has been on the Medical Staff at WRMC since 2015.  In addition to treating patients, Dr. Quiel is the National Institute of Health (NIH) Coordinator for the Helicobacter Pylori (H. Pylori) Study at WRMC. He leads a team of collaborators including WRMC Hospitalists Drs. Miguel Villagra and Morgan Norton, WRMC Pathologist Dr. Deborah Johnson, Internist Dr. Seth Barnes, and WRMC General Surgeons, Drs. Anthony Abraham, Jay Jeffrey, John Lambert, Philip Pack, and David Yarnell. The H. Pylori Study focuses on the analysis of H. Pylori, a bacteria linked to stomach cancer.

Dr. Quiel joins WRMC Internal Medicine physicians, Miguel Villagra, M.D. and Seth Barnes, M.D. as ACP fellows.

Dr. Quiel is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.   Dr. Quiel completed Medical School at the University of Panama School of Medicine. He completed a Residency in Internal Medicine at the New York Medical College Department of Medicine, and a Fellowship in Clinical Nutrition at the University of Chicago Medical Center Department of Gastroenterology.

Fellows are elected upon the recommendation of their peers and the review of ACP’s Credentials Subcommittee. They often use “FACP” – Fellow of the American College of Physicians – after their names in recognition of this honor.
